What a High School Volleyball Coach’s Season REALLY Looks Like
What does a high school volleyball coach’s season really look like? This week on The Rotation Station, Coach Jason sits down with Coach Shelby to talk about the reality of coaching high school volleyball during the season. From the chaos of August tournament season to district play, early-morning practices, scouting opponents, recovery days, developing younger players, and trying to build an entire program from middle school through varsity, there is a lot happening that most people never see. Coach Shelby breaks down what a typical week looks like, how practices change once district play begins, why mentally tough situations matter, how she manages athlete recovery, and what goes into building a program for long-term success. We also talk about the differences between high school and club volleyball, and why coaching both can be a completely different challenge. Coach Shelby is in her fifth year as a head coach and ninth year at Tuloso-Midway in Corpus Christi.
