Rene Velazquez

Head Coach

Coach Rene Velázquez, originally hailing from Puerto Rico, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the world of volleyball. After graduating from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Coach Velázquez embarked on a successful military career, where he discovered his love for the sport. Throughout his military service, Coach Velázquez played and coached in numerous Captain's Cup competitions across the United States and internationally. In 2005, he relocated to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, where he had the privilege of coaching various age groups for local volleyball clubs. In addition to his coaching role, Coach Rene serves as the President of the Corpus Christi TASO Volleyball Chapter and holds certifications as a TASO official and USAV Lone Star Regional Official. His expertise extends to officiating for prestigious conferences such as the Southland Conference and the Lone Star Conference. He has also actively pursued coaching education programs, including the USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program (USAV-CAP) and IMPACT. Outside of the volleyball world, Coach Rene dedicates his time as a Flight Simulator Instructor for Student Military Aviators. He takes great pride in his role as a father to three beautiful daughters, Francesca, Carmen, and Angélica, and a grandfather to his lovely granddaughter, Arianna. Coach Rene's coaching journey with Storm spans ten seasons, and he is excited to assume a role of Head Coach for the upcoming season, leading the our teams. His passion and extensive knowledge of the sport make him a valuable addition to the Storm family and contribute to our tradition of volleyball excellence.

Established in 2010, Storm Performance Volleyball is the premier youth training organization serving Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend, and families across the South Texas region. Operating out of our dedicated facility at 1418 N Broadway St, Corpus Christi, TX, we have proudly helped 55+ athletes advance to the collegiate level through our developmental academies, specialized clinics, and competitive travel teams.
