Robbie Curlee

Robbie Curlee's volleyball journey began in 1998 at a small private school that wanted to offer a volleyball program. She had no coaching experience and little knowledge of the sport, but she committed herself to learning everything she could. From the beginning, she saw coaching as more than teaching volleyball. It was a ministry and an opportunity to mentor young athletes, invest in their lives, and help them grow. Somewhere along the way, volleyball became one of her greatest passions, and coaching became a way for her to pour into young women through a sport she had grown to love. She coached for 11 years before stepping away when her oldest daughter entered high school. At that point, her focus shifted toward supporting her and following her own volleyball journey. During her years coaching in Victoria, her teams earned several playoff appearances and advanced to the state tournament. Those accomplishments were special, but her final season remains her favorite. It was an incredible group of athletes, memorable matches, and a season in which they defeated several highly regarded public-school programs. They established themselves as a respected program, and she walked away from coaching proud of what they had built together. Storm began during one of the most difficult seasons of the Curlee family's lives. They were struggling financially, Robbie was not employed, and Jason was working in local church ministry. They were barely getting by, and she found herself leaning on the one thing she knew well: volleyball. Out of the storm they were experiencing in their own lives, Storm Performance Volleyball was born. What began as a way to survive became more than she ever imagined. Storm changed their lives and gave Robbie an opportunity to build everything she had ever wanted in a volleyball program. For the past 16 years, she has loved this club, poured everything she has into it, and watched it become a source of opportunity, belonging, and purpose for so many people. She will always be grateful for this beautiful Storm and for the life it has given not only to her, but also to the athletes, families, and coaches who walk through its doors. The name Storm came from the season of life they were experiencing when the club began. Their family was going through a difficult and uncertain time, and volleyball became the thing they could hold onto. Storm represents what can be created during hardship. Something powerful and beautiful grew out of one of the hardest chapters of their lives. The name reminds them where they started, what they overcame, and how even the most difficult storms can lead to a new beginning. Robbie's philosophy is simple: love them first, and the rest will come. Their goal has always been to grow the sport while developing athletes both on and off the court. They want Storm to be a place where every athlete feels accepted, valued, and given an opportunity to improve. Winning matters, and they work hard to create a competitive culture, but their athletes must always know that their value extends far beyond a match, a roster, or a result. They want them to learn discipline, confidence, resilience, teamwork, and how to care for the people around them. The diversity within their walls is one of the things that makes Storm most special. Their athletes come from throughout the Coastal Bend, with more than 30 high schools and even more middle schools represented in their programs. They are proud to be a club for everyone. They do not exist only to recruit athletes who are already considered elite. They provide opportunities for players at every stage, from those touching a volleyball for the first time to those preparing to compete at the highest levels. They love developing young athletes, helping them discover what they are capable of, and watching them grow into confident volleyball players. Their goal is to build a competitive, welcoming culture where athletes from different schools, communities, and backgrounds can come together and feel at home. More than anything, Robbie hopes every athlete leaves Storm knowing that she mattered. She wants their athletes to feel that they belonged to a family, not simply a volleyball club. She hopes they look back and remember the relationships, the laughter, the lessons, the challenges, and the people who believed in them. Most of all, she hopes they understand that everything they have built and everything they continue to pour into Storm has always been for them. She wants every athlete who enters their gym to know that she was deeply cared for, valued, and an important part of their story.

Established in 2010, Storm Performance Volleyball is the premier youth training organization serving Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend, and families across the South Texas region. Operating out of our dedicated facility at 1418 N Broadway St, Corpus Christi, TX, we have proudly helped 55+ athletes advance to the collegiate level through our developmental academies, specialized clinics, and competitive travel teams.
